| What is a Virtual Domain?
A Virtual Domain means that you have your own Internet address (URL) like http://your-name.com or http://www.your-name.com. There are six common top-level domains in the United States:
- COM commercial enterprises
- EDU educational institutions
- GOV nonmilitary government agencies
- MIL military government agencies
- NET networking organizations
- ORG other (often nonprofit) organizations
Choosing your domain name
- The only characters allowed in a domain name are letters, numbers and hyphens.
- Your domain name can begin with a capital or small letter and must end up with either a letter or a number.
- Names can not begin or end with hyphens.
- The maximum length of a domain name is 20 letters, but we advise you to use as short a name as possible.
Who is the InterNic?
The InterNic is an independent organization that is responsible for holding the registration and routing of Internet domain name. However, you are required to pay an annual maintenance fee to InterNic.
